● Winner of the Health Management category at the Innovation Awards

Common Health magazine, a publication long devoted to the issue of occupational health, this year held its first Corporate Health Responsibility (CHR) Commitment and ranking event. Covestro Taiwan caught the eyes of the judges and won the Innovation Award in the Health Management category for valuing its employees’ health and for a workplace environment design that is geared towards individual needs and work comfort. The ceremony was held on August 1, and the award was handed out by the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) Director General, Lee Po-Chang, to Simon Tsang, the Site Manager of Covestro’s Taiwan Linyuan Site.
“It is our great honor to receive the first Common Health magazine CHR Health Management Innovation Award,” said Michael Lee, Managing Director of Covestro Taiwan. “Every colleague is Covestro’s most valuable asset. The physical and mental health and safety of our co-workers are our primary responsibility. This concept is expressed in the actions taken by Covestro Taiwan, such as our flexible workplace design. Work equipment that responds to individual staff demands was taken into consideration at the start of our office arrangement planning. We are devoted to creating a comfortable and highly flexible office environment, and improving staff morale and satisfaction.”
For instance, the workplace environment arrangements at Covestro Taiwan include regular lighting and air tests, as well as highly flexible office seating equipment; unlike the traditional desks and chairs, the ones used at Covestro Taiwan have adjustable heights, so that employees can adjust their seating to their individual needs. Co-workers are also encouraged to stand up at times to relieve the many health issues associated with sitting for long periods of time. This arrangement has been received positively by staff and was a key factor in our selection for the award. In response to supporting individual working habits, the company also supplies computer monitor supporting frames that offer its staff a diversified and ergonomic work environment. The multi-functional rest area that serves official and recreational needs is also a demonstration of Covestro Taiwan’s thoughtful creativity in placing value in the balanced health of their employees – it has been designed to be a bright and open space for conversations and social interactions. Covestro Taiwan also provides flexibility regarding working hours, locations and time-off, as well as a range of employee care plans. These include extended insurance coverage, various safety measures, and family learning groups and other activities to meet different needs of its staff.
More and more research has shown that workplace health has a positive correlation with employee solidarity and productivity. Common Health magazine has been a champion of occupational health for many years, and 2019 has seen it hold its first CHR ranking event. The event promotes occupational health and hopes to inspire the industry to create friendly working environments through actual practices. The first CHR Award attracted 170 companies to sign up and the editors of Common Health magazine and field experts jointly selected 15 winner companies, including Covestro Taiwan, to receive various awards. The award references international standards and evaluation methods, and consists of four major aspects: “knowledge” for health awareness, “movement” for health activities, “food” for health eating, and “assistance” for health management.
