Covestro joins hands with CU to promote awareness on sustainable environmental management

Covestro joined hands with Research and Development Center on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University to host an activity to promote sustainable environmental management knowledge and launch "Bright Mind for a Brighter World Ep.1", an application which aims to support knowledge comes with fun features on cultivate sustainable waste management and environment concept for elementary school students. The project was piloted at Wat Hua Lamphong School and planed to expand to five network schools to raise awareness in environment conservation among the children nationwide through the use of this application.

Ms. Khawissara Wattanapisit, Head of ASEAN Corporate Communications of Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd. revealed, "Nowadays, all sectors put a strong focus on sustainable way in coping environmental issues. Throughout the years, Covestro (Thailand) has supported for learning process following this concept through several activities, such as school activities which aimed to enhance knowledge on effective waste management embedding to children in communities surrounding Covestro’s operating area both in Rayong and Bangkok. And providing over 25,000 copies of children's books "Bright Minds for a Brighter World" that distributed to support knowledge to related parties and network schools. We believe that supporting knowledge on environmental conservation and development among the youth and education sector, will lead this concept to concrete action towards long-term sustainability for society and the country as one of missions and strategies of Covestro."

The children's story book "Bright Minds for a Brighter World" was initiated by Covestro (Thailand), aimed at educating and raising awareness on efffective waste management through an adventure story of a group of young guardians which offering knowledge comes along with fun at the same time. To date, the books have been published and translated into many languages and distributed to the youths in 6 countries across Asia. Covestro is committed to expanding knowledge to a broader scope of children and parents where the story is not only limited in the story book by extending content’s reach further into online  application platform called "Bright Mind for a Brighter World Ep.1". The application that incorporates interactive functions and features such as waste management matching game, drawing and coloring activity including a recording feature that parents or teachers can record stories with their own version. Furthermore, the application enables teachers with the use of this leaning tool for environmental education in classroom lesson which will be available for downloading on Android and iOS at Google Play Store and App Store, starting 15 March 2020.

Asst. Prof Athapol Anunthavorasakul, Director of Research and Development Center on Education for Sustainable Development, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University said that, "The Research and Development Center on Education for Sustainable Development perceives that the cooperation with Covestro this time will not only cultivate environmental management mindset among the children but also become a vital role moving forward to promote environmental education for sustainability development. This is a key contribution for society, economy, and environment as building a strong basis towards a sustainable future. To achieve the goal, the center has fostered the reformation with whole school learning process which environmental education is one of the key concept to promote education quality through participation that leads to a concreate action for environmental management. The co-created the framework of the activity mastered by Covestro has been piloted at Wat Hua Lamphong School. The school activity was also encouraged by university students with the private sector in arranging sustainable environmental conservation activity for elementary students as well as setting the target to expand the activity to other network schools in the long term."
