Aniline Pilot Plant
This is where the raw materials of tomorrow are created
This is another milestone on the path to a circular economy and a significant step towards plastic made from renewable raw materials: The basic chemical aniline can be produced entirely from plant-based biomass instead of petroleum. In this pilot plant, the unique process developed by Covestro and partners is being tested and further developed for industrial production.
New standards in aniline production
With a production capacity of over one million tons per year, Covestro is one of the leading manufacturers of aniline. Compared to conventional technology, the new process leads to a significantly improved CO2 footprint of aniline.
Paving the way for sustainable products
Aniline is a true all-rounder in chemistry and, for example, an important raw material for medicines and paints. Covestro uses aniline to produce the chemical MDI, which is mainly used as a component for the production of rigid polyurethane foam. This is used worldwide for insulating buildings and refrigeration equipment, thus making an important contribution to energy savings.
