Covestro Taiwan announced today that its “MagicMaterial School” CSR program, the sole project from Taiwanese enterprise that was recognized by Gartner, a company that delivers actionable, objective insight to executives and their teams, by being nominated for the 2022 Gartner Communications Awards.
The Gartner Communications Awards had eight categories this year. Covestro Taiwan was the only Taiwanese enterprise to have been nominated and was named a Finalist for the category “Excellence in ESG, Sustainability and DEI Communications”. Gartner points out that its judges panel was impressed by how the winners and finalists’ Corporate Communications teams achieved their goals in this field.
Diversity and Inclusion Empowered by Science
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) are essential elements in the Covestro culture, and form the concept from which the “Covestro MagicMaterial School” originated. The concept helps to protect the science-related human rights of hearing-impaired students whose schools face a great shortage of scientific teaching resources. Additionally, the various different inclusion activities are designed to allow young children and adults from different populations to have fun and play with science, while intangibly learning how to know and respect each other’s differences, as well as how to understand the infinite potential every person has.
“I’m really so grateful for the effort and encouragement by Covestro over the years,” said Fang-duo Lee, a student at the Taipei School For The Hearing Impaired, who was also a three-time science theater play actress and one-time science teacher’s assistant for the Covestro MagicMaterial School. “I didn’t use to be very confident when I studied in a regular elementary school. Over these past years, the stage provided by Covestro not only allowed me to prove my talent in front of hearing students with ease, but also allowed other children without hearing impairments to discover that the capabilities of hearing-impaired students can exceed their imagination. Due to these opportunities, I can also socailize with hearing students comfortably and confidently now!”
Tung-liang Chen, who was the lead actor of the first-ever science play with complete hearing loss at MagicMaterial School, was admitted into
a the science and engineering department at the National United University after his graduation from the hearing-impaired school. This also wrote a new chapter in the school’s history. Chen indicates, “As long as we can equally receive scientific education resources, children with hearing loss or no hearing can also shine in the field of science and engineering. I want to thank Covestro, which not only made me more confident in science and myself, but also helped me to feel comfortable when studing and living with hearing peers at university. Every hearing-impaired child has infinite potential!”
“We are pleased to see our ESG, Sustainability and DEI initiatives in Taiwan be recognized by Gartner,” said Matthias Poth, Global Head of Corporate Communications & Public Relations of Covestro. “We firmly believe that chemical reactions exist not only in science, but can also change the minds of people, as long as we can find fun ways to involve children to see with their own eyes that the capabilities demonstrated by different groups of people can go beyond their imagination. And then we’ll have a chance to make an postive impact on their values and attitudes throughout their entire lives, and on the future of society.”
