We focus on transparency in our sustainability efforts and use valid data to provide evidence of success or failure. After all, successful sustainability management is quantifiable. We share this opinion with many external organizations.
In the course of achieving our aims, we have already reached a number of milestones and have evidence of our success. We meet the requirements of important international standards, and this is regularly confirmed through our global cooperation with independent certifiers and auditors.
For its sustainability achievements, Covestro has been awarded the top score “Gold” by international ratings agency EcoVadis. We were evaluated in the fields of environment, working conditions and social responsibility as well as fair business practices and sustainable purchasing.
In the latest survey, the company exhibited even greater improvements and is now in the top two percent of the global rankings comprising 25,000 evaluated companies. Compared to the last survey a good two years ago, Covestro has gained eight points to reach 73 points and is thus well over the average value of 42 points.
Many of our customers are already doing away with their own surveys and relying instead on the EcoVadis rating. We also commissioned the same survey to evaluate the sustainability performance of our supply chain as part of the initiative “Together for Sustainability”.
Covestro received special recognition from ISS-oekom, formerly known as Oekom Research, one of the world’s leading ESG (Environment Social Governance) research and rating agencies for sustainable investments. This honored our strategy for engaging with climate change, our certified integrated management system, the good measures for guaranteeing plant and transport safety and also our good supply chain management in relation to labor laws, working conditions and environmental aspects.
ISS-oekom also rated Covestro in the “Prime” (B-) category. “Prime” status is awarded to a company that is evaluated as good in a rating process that takes into account societal and environmentally-relevant criteria. This means that we are among the leaders in the chemical industry and positioned in the best category for companies in this industry.
