Taking on responsibility

As a global company with deep roots in the communities where we operate, Covestro embraces the responsibility to help create a brighter, more sustainable future. This commitment is reflected in how we develop our products, support our customers, care for our employees, and protect the environment. We are part of the communities around our sites, and that connection drives us to give back in meaningful, lasting ways.

Our Social Engagement

Our social engagement efforts are designed to advance sustainable development and strengthen the places we call home. As a leading producer of raw materials for high-tech polymer materials, we work with trusted partners to expand environmental stewardship, support Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education, and help communities prepare for, and recover from, crises.

We seek contributions that align with Covestro values and sustainability goals while maintaining the highest ethical standards. We strictly prohibit donations that could be perceived as corruption or create conflicts of interest. Our donation process ensures full transparency and clear goveranance with defined approval levels based on donation amounts and types. The Head of Global Donations oversees and reports on all donation activities across the company to coordinate and implement cooperative efforts.

Our strategic focus areas are:

Promoting Education
We support STEM education to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers and advance the skills needed for a more sustainable world.

Employee & Community Engagement
We empower our employees to make a difference by supporting volunteering and community involvement. Their time, expertise, and passion help strengthen the resilience of the communities where we live and work.

Here's how we're making a difference:

Promoting Education

China

Through our longstanding partnership with the renowned Tongji University in Shanghai, we're fostering knowledge transfer and developing talent that benefits society. The Covestro-Tongji Innovation Academy provides students and researchers with hands-on industry experience while driving innovation in key sectors like mobility and construction. This bridges academic research with real-world applications.

US

Across the United States, Covestro partners with schools and community organizations to expand access to high-quality STEM learning. With more than 340 employee volunteers and over 140 community events, thousands of students and hundreds of educators participate in experiences that connect classroom concepts to real-world innovation and future careers. These efforts prioritize broadening participation for learners who have been underrepresented in STEM, while strengthening a talent pipeline that draws from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences for the jobs of today and tomorrow. By investing early and consistently, Covestro supports pathways from elementary school through higher education and into the workforce, helping learners imagine possibilities, spark curiosity, and develop solutions to global challenges.

To strengthen this commitment, our U.S. sites work with educators and community partners to support teaching, provide insight into modern manufacturing and materials science, and connect students with meaningful career exploration. This reflects our belief that a STEM-literate society is essential to sustainable innovation, economic competitiveness, and job creation in advanced manufacturing. We also recognize that broad access to STEM learning supports long-term economic resilience and community wellbeing.

Covestro also supports the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI), established by the American Chemistry Council in 2020 to reduce financial barriers to higher education and increase broad interest in the chemical sector. FOSSI provides scholarships to students pursuing STEM degrees and connects them with corporate sponsors for mentorship, skills training, and internship opportunities. Since its first class in 2021, the program has achieved a 95 percent student retention rate. Covestro has participated since the early days of the initiative and has supported four Covestro Scholars. Employees also contribute mentorship and career guidance, including resume support, interview coaching, and internship preparation.

For almost a decade, Covestro has supported the American Chemical Society’s Project SEED program, which provides high school students from underserved communities with hands-on STEM research experience. Each summer, we sponsor a student for an immersive internship in our labs where they gain skills, mentoring, and the confidence to envision a future in science and engineering. To date, we have welcomed 10 students through Project SEED.

Covestro also proudly supports the American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program, which has created opportunities for underrepresented students in chemistry and chemical engineering for over 30 years. Covestro has been contributing to this legacy for more than a decade by supporting over 10 ACS Scholars through financial assistance and professional development.

Brazil

In Brazil, Covestro has a longstanding commitment to education, supporting independent social projects over the years that promote better learning opportunities for children and teens, such as the LabMaker STEM initiative conducted by the Ana Rosa Institute in São Paulo.

In 2025, we partnered with Alpha Lumen’s Girls in STEM project, promoting equal opportunities for 90 girls in science and technology while increasing their enrollment in STEM programs, opening doors to future careers.

STEM scholarship for girls in India

Covestro launched its STEM journey in India aimed at inspiring young girls to develop interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, encouraging them to pursue STEM education and careers. We have now expanded this vision through Project STEMpowering, which brings hands-on science and technology learning to young girls across 25 government schools. The project establishes dedicated STEM labs where children actively experiment, build, and solve problems rather than simply studying from textbooks. By providing practical skills and training teachers in engaging educational methods, this initiative bridges the education gap for girls. What started as a focused effort to support girls in STEM has evolved into a comprehensive program transforming how hundreds of students experience education — from passive learning to active discovery, opening doors to futures many might never have imagined.

Employee & Community Engagement

As part of our social engagement, Covestro supports employee-led volunteer projects worldwide and takes responsibility for strengthening local communities.

Community Partnerships

US

Across our U.S. sites, employees actively support Habitat for Humanity, helping build homes for families in need across local communities. In South Charleston, West Virginia, volunteers have built more than 20 homes, contributed over 10,000 volunteer hours, and provided nearly $1 million for Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam’s “Raise the Roof” project. In Wilmington, Massachusetts, employees have contributed more than 500 Build Day hours for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell. In Elgin, Illinois, volunteers have logged over 200 hours with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley. In Frankfort, Indiana, employee donations help fund materials, tools, and skilled labor for Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette. In Baytown, Texas, Covestro partners with Baytown Habitat for Humanity, supporting home builds and celebrating milestones, including families receiving the keys to their new homes, with employees, donors, contractors, and suppliers all contributing to the effort.

For more than 20 years, Covestro employees have partnered with United Way to strengthen communities, contributing over $10 million to support pressing local needs. At U.S. sites, annual United Way campaigns combine employee donations, proceeds from benefit events, and corporate contributions. Sites in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Baytown, Texas; New Martinsville, West Virginia; Newark, Ohio; and Frankfort, Indiana, all actively participate. Beyond financial support, employees volunteer through initiatives such as the annual United Way Day of Caring. Covestro has consistently ranked among the top contributors in recent years for funds raised through special community-focused events.

Supporting local food banks

US, Mexico & Brazil

In honor of our 10th anniversary, Covestro launched an employee-driven volunteer campaign called “10 for 10” with employees across the Americas committing to 10,000 hours of service in their local communities. For every hour logged, Covestro donated 10 meals through Feeding America and The Global FoodBanking Network, resulting in more than 100,000 meals provided to those in need.

Global: Emergency Response Support

Through monetary donations, in-kind donations such as medical supplies, protective equipment, essential materials, technology resources, and volunteering by our employees, we provide comprehensive support to communities in times of crisis. Our emergency response initiatives help strengthen community resilience when it’s needed most.
