Our Sustainable Future Strategy
Our „Sustainable Future” strategy consists of three main chapters — Optimize, Grow, and Transform — and these are enabled by innovation, digitalization & AI, our “We are 1” culture and our workforce. Sustainability is an integral part of our strategy. This demonstrates our drive toward climate neutrality to enable our ongoing transformation to achieve net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035 and reduce Scope 3 emissions by 10 million tons of CO₂e by the same year. Our vision to “become fully circular” is another focus topic of the strategy – Together with customers and partners, we are developing and monetizing a circular portfolio that integrates alternative carbon sources and optimizes resource use. This focus positions us to lead the chemical industry’s transition and ensures that the products we develop are future-proof and can contribute to a climate-neutral, resource-efficient economy where sustainability and commercial success go hand in hand.

We consider the entire product life cycle
Our sustainability goals cover the entire product life cycle with the intention of returning products and materials to the value cycle at the end-of-life stage. The entire product life cycle consideration includes the raw materials, production and processing, as well as the application, disposal or recycling of our products. Sustainability governs everything we do, and we're continuously advancing in every area: from research and development – including joint projects with our customers and other partners – to sourcing, production and distribution.

Our commitment to the UN SDGs provides direction and inspiration for innovation and the positioning of the company. The short- and long-term demand for our products reflects the global efforts to meet the UN SDGs and to contribute to improving worldwide living conditions.

We have devoted ourselves to the goals and regulations of the United Nations’ “Global Compact” and are committed to respecting and safeguarding human rights. The principles of the Charter that we have signed are binding for all our employees. We expect the same high sustainability standards from our partners that we apply to ourselves.
Consequently, we have developed our Supplier Code of Conduct, which all of our suppliers must adhere to, no matter where they are based or where they operate their business. We work collaboratively with suppliers to implement these standards in ways that respect local business practices and regulatory environments. We regard these principles as drivers of innovation that help us implement our strategy.
