Covestro joins hands with NIA, launching Innovation Design Contest 2019.

Bangkok: 18 July 2019, Covestro, a world’s leading manufacturer of hi-tech polymer material, joins hands with National Innovation Agency (NIA) to accelerate creative ideas for innovation by launching the Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2019 or IDC. The competition engages university and vocational students to showcase their creativity through designing of the learning tools according to “Fun Lesson” theme to win trophies and scholarships worth over 300,000 baht and a chance to have great experience with the trip to Covestro Innovation Center APAC in Shanghai, China. Application and submission of ideas are opened from 18 July to 16 September 2019.

Dr. Juergen Meyn, Managing Director of Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said that “Encouraging the learning process that leads to innovations is considered essential and has become a major focus of many countries. With our strong ambition to drive business to the development of innovations that are inspired by sustainability, Covestro realizes that cultivating such concept in education sector can be an effective way to start driving new innovations to solidly happen in the future. This effort is in line with one of UN Sustainable Development Goals in which uplifting the education standard with innovations will benefit to all sectors both driving sustainable economic development and quality of life for people in the long run”

In response to this direction, Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has collaborated with National Innovation Agency (NIA), the institution, specializing in driving and supporting the learning process with the STEAM concept, to hold the Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2019 or IDC under the “Fun Lesson” theme. The competition aims to engage undergraduate university students and vocational students to join in designing contest for integrated learning tool for young students with the STEAM concept that expected to promote the enhancement of skills and creativity among the youth.

Dr. Pun-Arj Chairatana, Executive Director, National Innovation Agency (NIA) shared that “At present, the world has been continuously pushed forward to evolve with innovations. One of missions of NIA is to leverage science and technology to improve Thailand’s education to entitle Thailand to be an Innovation Nation. Additionally, NIA is committed to cultivate innovative thinking among Thai youth, based on the STEAM concept or the 5 pillars of knowledge, comprising Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. All of which are supporting young generation to grow and wider opportunity in their innovation-based careers.”

The Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2019 – Fun Lesson welcomes applications and idea submission via online channel at www.covestro.co.th/idc from 18 July to 16 September 2019. And promotional roadshows will be held at 10 leading universities nationwide. The 6 finalist teams will be joining the idea camp and presenting their works to the distinguished committee which results of the competition will be announced on Friday 15 November 2019 at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC).

Ms. Khawissara Wattanapisit, Head of Corporate Communications of Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd., concluded that, “The Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2019 is interesting and beneficial for all candidates, as they will get to learn and expose to 360-degree experiences, from assessing design concept to joining the idea camp with experts who will help them to accelerate their idea for implementation. In addition, the winning teams will have a chance to enhance their experience by joining the trip to learn more about innovations at Covestro Innovation Center APAC in Shanghai, China. The IDC 2019 is hence a fun-filled learning and skill enhancement program that will raise a new generation of innovators who can contribute knowledge to build sustainable society in the future.”
