New Film from Covestro Unlocks Medical Device Capabilities

“The Material Effect” at MD&M West 2026

Covestro, a world-leading supplier of high-tech polymer materials, announced the official launch of Dureflex® MA5000. This innovative thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film on paper carrier is designed specifically for high-performance medical applications such as IV securement dressings and CGM over patches for medical wearables.

Manufacturing complex medical applications is challenging due to soft films, complex die-cuts, and high-temperature adhesive processing. Maintaining dimensional stability, cutting accuracy, and high-temperature adhesive processing requires a stable carrier. Dureflex® MA5000 ensures reliable converting, consistent performance, and improved manufacturing efficiency.

Dureflex® MA5000 offers three key advantages that address critical challenges:

  • Engineered for Precise and Consistent Converting: high carrier rigidity, predictable peel force, and smooth transport ensure precise converting, reliable part release, and improved yield.
  • Enables High-Temperature Adhesive Coating: stable above 135 °C, the rigid carrier ensures consistent adhesive coating, minimal distortion, and reliable release.
  • Provides Structural Support for Simplified Device Placement: maintains geometry for precise placement, supports staged application, and enables one-handed use.

Dureflex® MA5000 serves diverse medical uses:

  • IV securement dressings
  • CGM overpatches
  • Scar management dressings
  • Medical wearables
  • Flexible printed electronics

"This product represents Covestro's commitment to innovation in healthcare materials," said Kidd Wang, Medical Segment Manager at Covestro. "By addressing specific manufacturing challenges, we're enabling our customers to create more effective, user-friendly medical devices that improve patient outcomes."

Dureflex® MA5000 is available immediately for commercial applications. Medical device manufacturers interested in learning more can visit Wound care | Covestro to download a detailed brochure or contact Covestro's Specialty Films division at 413-665-7016.

MD&M West attendees can stop by the Covestro booth (#2439) to explore how the company’s Specialty Films (both rigid and flexible) are transforming healthcare applications.
