Pittsburgh, December 15, 2020 — Covestro LLC is elevating its efforts to protect and preserve our world’s water sources by joining Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS) blue — an initiative born from the larger Operation Clean Sweep® program.

OCS® blue sets a higher benchmark for pellet loss prevention and is designed to drive best practices and data-informed strategies to keep plastic pellets, flakes and powder from getting into waterways that eventually lead to the sea.

Covestro, a leading producer of high-performance polymers, has been a member of Operation Clean Sweep® since 2015. The program was jointly established by the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) Plastics Division and the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS).

As an OCS® blue member, Covestro is committed to more rigorous methods of managing, measuring and reporting unrecovered plastic releases into the environment. Member companies must also conduct regular training, perform internal audits and establish written procedures to locate potential risks, prevent pellet loss and manage clean-up.

By participating in this enhanced initiative to achieve zero pellet loss, Covestro is building on its collaborative efforts to tackle plastic pollution worldwide. The company is also a member of PlasticsEurope, which signed onto Operation Clean Sweep® in 2015, and is a founding member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste.

“At Covestro, we are guided by our vision to become fully circular,” explains Haakan Jonsson, chairman and president, Covestro LLC. “Our membership with OCS® blue will help us realize this vision and live up to our commitments as responsible stewards to reduce waste, recover materials and build a brighter future for our planet.”
