Covestro (Thailand) joins hands with RISC, kicking off Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2020

Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2020 (IDC 2020), a campaign which aims to accelerate idea on innovation under the theme “World of innovation for sustainable living” organized by Covestro, world-leading supplier of high-tech polymer materials, and the Research and Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC by MQDC) has been successfully completed. The campaign’s awards announcement has concluded with  students from the Faculty of Architecture and Design, King Mongkut’s University pf Technology North Bangkok, winning the top prize for their idea and concept on “SUCKER: water waste collector”, which most answering with this year theme of the contest very well.

Dr. Juergen Meyn, Managing Director of Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said, “Nowadays, mankind  is facing with a lot of world’s challenges that caused by fast-changing situations in many aspects such as growing number of world population, climate change, rapid urbanization expansion and transforming of aging society in many countries as well as a digital technology that impacts people’s lives. In response to this direction, Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has joined hands with Research & Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC) to launch the second year of Covestro Innovation Design Contest (IDC2020) that comes with the theme, “World of Innovation for Sustainable Living”. The campaign, targeting to accelerate full potential of young generation, the IDC2020 aims to engage  undergraduate and high vocational students to submit their creative ideas on innovation design that answers the “Smart Living” concept.  The concept is possible for anything surrounding us that can be developed as a new solution to support our everyday life to be more comfortable and convenient including enhacning people’s well-being that lead us to the world of sustainabiltiy in every angles.

 

 

Dr. Sarigga Pongsuwan, Vice President – Integration for Dissemination at RISC by MQDC, said: “RISC by MQDC is extremely delighted and honored to work with Covestro in Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2020. The competition objective is aligned with key strategies and research goals at RISC. We currently conduct research studies seven major fields to create bodies of knowledge for sustainable well-being: 1. Health & Wellness 2. Materials & Resources 3. Biodiversity 4. Smart & Sensible Design & Construction  5. Technology & Automation  6. Active & Low Impact Mobility and 7. Community & Intergens 

 

These seven fields are also in compliance with 12 UN Sustainable Development Goals (out of a total 17), which are destined to change the world. Additionally, we attach a lot of importance to local communities, the society, natural resources and the environment, and are determined to conduct high-quality research works that benefit the creation of innovations for a better and more sustainable well-being.”

 

“We really hope this initiative helps empower the new generation so that they are able to unlock their thinking power essential for sustainable innovations. RISC by MQDC will provide bodies of knowledge to be distributed among youths and guide them to apply and integrate different fields of knowledge into innovative design. This is the way we cultivate a new generation of innovation designers who can be developed further to bring changes to technology and then create new things that lead to sustainable well-being for all creatures in the world. As the first research and innovation center for sustainability in Asia, RISC by MQDC is determined to and stay focused on translating knowledge and expertise gained through a series of research projects into practice. This helps enhance the quality of life for all living creatures under the principle of For All Well-Being,” said Sarigga.

 

Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2020 welcomes  applications and creative idea submission from today until October 25, 2020. The six finalist teams will get a chance to join workshop to accelerate their idea with experts. And they will have an opportunity to present their projects to to the distinguished committee which results of the competition will be announced on December 18, 2020 at True Digital Park.

 

Ms. Khawissara Wattanapisit, Head of Corporate Communications of Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd., added, “Our partnership with RISC in IDC2020 is considered a first-step success and a great opportunity for our campaign this year. And we are very delighted that both organizations share the same common goal in driving new innovations that support world’s sustainability to solidly happen. We expect this campaign will encourage more opportunities as an open space for the new generation to express their full potential on innovative thinking that come from creativity. Furthermore, the campaign is beneficial for all participants, as they will get to learn and expose to real experiences, from assessing design concept, how to tackle with painpoints through accelerating idea for implementation which knowledge associated with innovation and sustainability will be  supported by experts from both organizations. We consider all activities are very advantageous as skill enhancement program for the youth to grow and become new innovators who can create the world of sustainabiltiy in the future. And there are still a lot in need of this kind of talents and skills in Thailand and worldwide.”

 

 

Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2020 is now open for team of participants of 2-5 people whose age are  not over than 25 year old. Each idea is required to submit hand-drafted or computer-aided sketches along with product reference that finished coloring. And there must be product descriptions on how to use and problem-solving explanation as each idea must be possible to be further developed into a finished and ready-to-use product.
