Covestro provides premium Polycarbonate Films to produce high quality face shields to Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital and Volunteer Group to Fight Against COVID for frontline medical staff

Covestro - PC films donation during the outbreak of COVID-19 situation

April 2020 – Covestro donates high-quality grade of Polycarbonate Films to Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital and Volunteer Group to Fight Against COVID who will be the center of collaboration between groups of volunteers and related parties to produce the face shields. All finished face shields will be distributed to hospitals in their network and any hospitals in need of support across country for the use of enhancing safety for medical personnel during the outbreak of COVID-19 situation.

Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is concerned about necessity and cares for safety and health of all medical personnels who have been working hard during the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) that still continues its impact in many countries including Thailand. Consequently, the medical personnels have to work on their tough mission and face with the risk of infection at the same time. Therefore, the protective equipments are still highly needed for them in many hospitals and healthcare sectors to enhance their safety and reduce the risk while providing medical treatment to patients. Covestro is willing to be part of help to support on this situation, so the company donated 30,000 pieces of high quality and ready-to-use polycarbonate films for making high quality face shields.

The handover of 20,000 pieces to Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital on April 10, 2020 was represented by Mr. Virat Sopinpornraksa, Director of Covestro (Thailand) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charn Sriratanasathavorn,  Director of Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital. Another 8,000 pieces were donated to the Volunteer Group to Fight Against COVID and 2,000 pieces for Rayong Provincial Public Health Office. The 3 organizations will be the centers to produce and further distribute face shields made of polycarbonate films from Covestro to networked hospitals and hospitals that are in need across the country.

Mr. Noppadol Akkrasettung, Head of Production, Specialty Films Business revealed that “Covestro’s polycarbonate films which we donated are world standard premium grade films produced from our production site in Map Ta Phut, Rayong and are normally used in face shield application and security industries. With outstanding  attribution, the material comes with high transparency and low-retardation which enables better visibility for a doctor while wearing face shield. As a consequence, it is a perfect material for the face shield that can help medical satff to prevent the risk of contaminations and infections due to secretion transmitted from patients. Moreover, the face shield made of Covestro’s polycarbonate films material has been tested and received  good responses from doctors from hospitals in Rayong”

In addition, Covestro (Thailand) also encouraged for employee volunteering to produce DIY face shields made of our polycarbonate films. From this collaboration, more than 1,000 DIY face shields were donated to 14 hospitals and healthcare organizations such as Rayong Hospital, Disease Control Center under Rayong Provincial Public Health Office and Banchang Hospital.
