Pittsburgh, May 5, 2020 — As the coronavirus pandemic continues to impact countries around the world, Covestro LLC is responding to the needs of the U.S. communities it calls home through a unique blend of monetary and non-monetary donations, online STEM learning opportunities, employee giving and volunteerism.

Covestro, which produces high-performance polymers that are found in thousands of applications, including many used by front line and healthcare workers, has its U.S. headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It also has operations in Texas, West Virginia, Ohio and Massachussets.

Across its sites, Covestro and its employees have made supporting COVID-19 relief a priority. The company recently donated $67,500 to local food banks in the communities where its employees live and work. But, as a manufacturer of materials that support the production of many healthcare products, Covestro has also been able to donate raw materials for high-demand medical equipment, including specialty films for face shields and thermoplastic polyurethane for face masks.

When unable to donate materials, Covestro donated its surplus personal protective equipment, including face masks, hand sanitizer and safety glasses.

Employees, too, have stepped up to help in a variety of ways – from personal financial contributions to virtual volunteerism. Through national giving campaigns, Covestro employees have personally donated more than $16,000 to support local United Way COVID-19 response and recovery efforts and virtual food drives in their local communities.

And, the employee-hosted #StayAtHomeSTEM video series, which is now available on YouTube and Twitter, provides educational experiments for parents to do with their children while schools are closed.

“During these challenging times, it is important to Covestro to make sure we do our part to support the communities we call home,” said Rebecca Lucore, head of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility, Covestro LLC. “But I’m personally proud of our employees, who continue to seek new and innovative ways they can contribute and amplify our impact. We’re truly in this together.”

Covestro will continue to explore opportunities to help the communities and organizations that need support as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
