Review: Aachen Biology Day & Night of Science 2024

In November 2024, two major science events took place in Aachen: the Aachen Biology Day and the Night of Science.
The Aachen Biology Day was specifically aimed at interested high school students from the region. Together with their upper-level courses, they explored the information booths of various institutes for biology and biotechnology at RWTH Aachen and gained exciting insights into current research projects.
During the Night of Science, a broader audience was invited to experience science up close — through expert lectures, interactive booths, and small experiments. The event offered fascinating insights into research at RWTH Aachen and encouraged exchange with scientists.
The junior research group NEnzy was also represented by PhD student Linda Pastor and doctoral candidate Georg Röhling. They presented their research on polymer recycling and circular economy in the chemical industry. Visitors showed great interest — there were numerous questions, including some critical discussions. Particularly impressive were the vivid exhibits demonstrating how enzymatic recycling can recover raw materials for new polycarbonate from a car headlight.
The events were a great success and once again highlighted the importance of science communication for society.
