This is also TÜV Rheinland’s first polyurethane material certificate applied to solar panel frames.</span></p><p><span>The frame is a crucial component of solar panel modules, fixing and sealing the panels and backsheet while enhancing the strength of the modules. This helps to facilitate the modules’ transportation and installation, and the frame’s improved performance directly influences the modules’ service life. Photovoltaic frames are typically made of aluminum alloys that consume high amounts of energy during production. A polyurethane composite frame made of the Baydur<sup>®</sup> polyurethane resin provides solar module manufacturers with a new material choice, which is superior in anti-corrosion performance and cost efficiency. The commercial material is critical to applications in the solar energy industry and has been certified by TÜV Rheinland for its thermal life, physical performance, and electrical performance.</span></p><p><span>Hong Jiang, Executive Director of South China Region at TÜV Rheinland, said: “I am honored to present the first polyurethane certificate used for solar frames to Covestro on behalf of TÜV Rheinland. According to industrial standards, we have conducted strict tests on the resin. It conforms to the photovoltaic industry’s requirements for long-term use and reliability. TÜV Rheinland will provide professional technical services to Covestro and support the development of clean energy and China’s carbon neutral targets.” &nbsp;</span></p><p><span>Based on the breakthrough Baydur<sup>®</sup> polyurethane resin and an innovative composite pultrusion production process, the polyurethane composite frames have excellent corrosion resistance, and are especially suitable for coastal and offshore power stations with high humidity and high-salt fog. As non-metallic material with excellent insulation performance, the frames do not require grounding and can reduce the occurrence of Potential-Induced Degradation (PID), thus improving the power generation efficiency of the solar panels.</span></p><p><span>Dr. Irene Li, Vice President of R&D at Tailored Urethanes in Asia Pacific of Covestro said: “The solar power industry is developing rapidly, and players along the industry chain are constantly updating their technologies with a focus on improving quality, reducing costs, and increasing efficiency. At Stand A84 in Hall 4.0, Covestro will be showcasing material solutions based on high-performance polycarbonate for applications in optics, light guides, diffusers, reflectors and heat sinks. <br><br>Under the motto &quot;Walk the Way of Light with Smart Materials&quot;, the company will be informing visitors about current developments in the targeted bundling, scattering and reflection of LED light, and offers a wide range of polycarbonate granulates, films and sheets.<br><br><b>See and feel the materials</b><br>This year, Covestro will use the Light + Building trade fair to present a wide range of material solutions for future efficient lighting to visitors. The Sample Bar gives visitors the chance to see and touch dozens of samples – an ideal way to discover the fascinating characteristics offered by modern plastics.<br><br>They also attract the interest of designers. They gain a great deal of freedom, especially when it comes to the functional and individual design of light sources and interiors. <br><br><b>Highly transparent polycarbonate for secondary optics</b><br>Makrolon<sup>®</sup> LED 5102 is a UV-stabilized, highly transparent polycarbonate for secondary optics in the general lighting industry. With its high transparency of more than 90 percent and long lifetime, it outplays major competitor products and existing Makrolon<sup>®</sup> grades, and enables manufacturers to easily meet the demanding requirements of their lighting customers. Good flowability allows smooth processing specifically in case of larger parts with increased requirements for dimensional accuracy and less sink marks. <br><br><b>New product types for heat sinks</b><br>Freedom of design, even lighter weight and easy processing – these are the main features of new polycarbonate types for heat sinks. In exactly these properties, the Makrolon<sup>®</sup> TC range of products (the abbreviation stands for thermally conductive) offers clear advantages over the conventionally used aluminum. They also facilitate the integration of functions.<br><br><b>Glare-free offices</b><br>Glare-free lighting and slim designs are core requirements for the office design of the future. Covestro has tackled this challenge and will be presenting two new transparent solid polycarbonate sheets at the Light + Building trade fair: Makrolon<sup>®</sup> DX Sky and Makrolon<sup>®</sup> SX Sharp. Both types have smooth and textured surfaces with special microprismatic optics.
