New polycarbonate sheet enhances lighting designs

As a trusted supplier of high-quality materials for LED applications, Covestro is unveiling a new grade to enhance lighting designs.

Building off the existing polycarbonate sheet portfolio, Makrolon® Lumen XT-V polycarbonate sheet offers enhanced flammability resistance with a textured surface specifically designed for lighting lenses.

Additional characteristics of this new polycarbonate sheet material include:

  • Design flexibility
  • Outstanding performance properties
  • Availability in three diffusion levels

Makrolon® Lumen XT-V polycarbonate sheet can be used in industrial luminaires, transportation lenses, hazardous location lighting and fixtures with NEC Class 1 circuits. It provides customers with the toughness and outstanding flammability resistance required for their applications, while meeting 5VA requirements.

Luminaire manufacturers can use Makrolon® Lumen XT polycarbonate sheet to enhance lighting in board rooms and other interior applications.

Covestro offers several other polycarbonate sheet products for LED applications:

  • Makrolon® Lumen XT polycarbonate sheet: Designed for lighting lenses, this translucent grade features a unique combination of high light diffusion and high light transmission due to an optimized surface texture and advanced diffuser technologies. When compared to acrylic, it offers superior impact strength, toughness, enhanced flammability resistance and a larger service temperature range. Available in a broad range of standard diffusion levels as well as a warm (LW) or a cool (LC) hue, this material provides designers with the flexibility needed to maximize appearance and performance.
  • Makrolon® DX-NR polycarbonate sheet: This polycarbonate sheet grade is a translucent material offering superior impact strength, toughness and flammability resistance when compared to acrylic and glass. It can be used for lighting lenses as well as outdoor applications. Exterior applications are protected from surface degradation due to enhanced UV-resistance technology.
