We caught up with Thomas Kostadinov, a Covestro employee working to help strengthen our organization’s relationship with the medical industry.

Thomas Kostadinov helps elevate Covestro in the medical industry as the segment manager for medical and consumer products in the EMLA region.

Born and raised in Leverkusen, Germany, Thomas originally planned to study chemistry in college. Instead, he accepted a job as a commercial apprentice with Bayer AG, which presented him with many development opportunities. In this role, he enjoyed helping make products for multiple industries that increase quality of life in various ways. He then went on to earn a diploma in economics/business administration.

Thomas’ work in the plastics industry began in 2001 as he worked in different sales functions and with a variety of customer segments- from small to global players in automotive, consumer products, electrical and IT. Thomas spent three years in Switzerland, helping to develop emerging markets in Africa and with Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.

Thomas is fairly new to the medical industry, having moved into his current role as segment manager, medical and consumer products for the Europe, Middle East, Latin America and Africa (EMLA) region in September 2017. He enjoys seeing how Covestro materials are used to design products that help enhance human health. According to Thomas, the medical industry is growing due to an aging population and increase in lifestyle diseases, which will cause the health care standards in emerging markets to improve. He also predicts that an increase in medication administered in the home and ongoing digitalization will impact the design and materials used in medical devices.

So how will Covestro fit into this vision? Thomas notes that the company’s mission to make the world a brighter place -and the resulting impact on employees- will play a prominent role. The company’s strength in innovation and long-lasting industry knowledge, coupled with the dedication of its employees, has allowed Covestro to create materials that meet industry requirements- and this will continue in the future.

Over his past 18 years with Covestro, Thomas has been involved with many projects and given a variety of opportunities. However, his favorite part has been the people he has worked with. He notes that good team spirit, engagement and fun have been a core component of the environment at Covestro.

This married father of one is an avid football fan and supporter of Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He also enjoys playing chess, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Last, but certainly not least, he is also an optimist: “Be happy, be positive and always look on the bright side of life.”
