Philipp was named Senior Vice President, Polycarbonates Mobility, in September. The new position has been a homecoming of sorts for him: he is now based in Leverkusen – not far from Muenster, Germany, where he was born and raised. This position is not only new to Philipp, but to Covestro, as well: In 2018 the polycarbonates business unit adopted a new global structure with one person leading each key market segment. In this new role, Philipp will harness the global polycarbonate resources of Covestro, enhancing a more streamlined experience for automotive customers in every corner of the world.
Philipp’s journey to his latest Covestro position has been filled with exciting twists and turns. He joined the company in 2003 following his graduation from the European Business Programme. He spent nearly three years in Hong Kong as Director, Continuous Improvement, responsible for optimizing supply chain processes for the Asia Pacific region.
Then it was back to Germany, where he became Head, Mergers & Acquisitions, with global responsibility for these activities. During his four-plus years in this role, the company acquired a Polyurethane Systems House in the Netherlands, and Philipp became its General Manager, responsible for integrating the business into the organization. After roughly two years, he was on the move again, this time to Singapore, to lead the Commercial Operations organization for Polyurethanes in ASEAN and Australia/New Zealand.
In January 2014 he took on the role of Head of Regional Product Management, based in Hong Kong. Then, two years later, he and his family packed their bags as he took on his first assignment in the United States – Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations Polycarbonates North America. In this role, based out of the North American headquarters of Covestro in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was responsible for product technology, applications development, market development and sales and distribution in North America. Philipp is fluent in three languages and proficient in three more. When not at work, he enjoys kitesurfing, diving, soccer, playing the guitar and chasing after his two young children.
