To make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the 44-meter-wide channel and to improve accessibility in both directions, the city administration decided to build a new swing bridge across the Hamburg Lotsekanal. Therefore the city was searching for an innovative and cost effective coating-solution.
Corrosion protection for a new bridge
As the bridge was planned to be heavily frequented, it needed a coating that guarantees a thorough protection against corrosion damage and should save costs at the same time. As a matter of principle, public authorities consider the introduction of innovative materials only if their successful performance has already been proven beyond any doubt. It was recognized that the technology thoroughly protects the structure against corrosion and is cost-effective at the same time.
For the City of Hamburg, the decision was quickly made: the unique benefits of the Pasquick™ based topcoat convinced the decision makers. The products enable a curing process four times faster than normal, resulting in a significant productivity boost.
As the application has been used in other fields of engineering for many years, it was proven that Pasquick™ would protect the structure just as thoroughly against corrosion damage as previous coating systems – and, thanks to one layer less, save costs for the public purse at the same time.
