These new thermally conductive grades, which include a grade that is also electrically insulating, allow lighting designers and manufacturers to replace the metal in heat sink applications, integrate more functions and reduce the number of components.
Beating the heat with new thermally conductive polycarbonates
The new Makrolon® TC polycarbonate grades are lightweight, offer design freedom and are easy to process. These properties make Makrolon® TC polycarbonate an alternative choice when compared to aluminum – a material traditionally used in heat sinks – and other thermally conductive plastics. Additional advantages of Makrolon® TC polycarbonate over these materials include:
- High-dimensional stability over a wide service temperature range
- Optimized design by reducing components through consolidation
- Reduced manufacturing complexity utilizing in-mold assembly of electronics
- The ability to be combined with other polycarbonates in multi-component processing
