By continuously tracking and analyzing medical-grade vital signs across in-hospital environments, the Vios Monitoring System from Vios Medical allows health care providers to automate patient oversight and remotely detect problems before they become serious.
The Vios Monitoring System connects patient-worn sensors, including the Vios Chest Sensor and a commercially available pulse oximeter, with a Bedside Monitor and Central Station Monitor Software to analyze, display and centralize patient data in near real-time. The software can be deployed on off-the-shelf hardware and delivers an engaging user interface that can coordinate care among multidisciplinary teams. The first generation of the Vios Monitoring System has received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance but is not currently available in the United States.
For its mobile monitoring device, Vios Medical sought materials that were durable enough to protect the inner components yet gentle enough to not irritate a patient’s skin. Vios Medical found what it was looking for in injection-molded grades of Bayblend® polycarbonate + acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (PC+ABS) blend resin and Texin® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) from Covestro. The materials’ biocompatibility and performance in combination with Covestro’s technical support and color development services made them the right choices for the job.
Custom-colored Bayblend® M301 FR PC+ABS blend is ideal for use in medical devices with housings that require biocompatibility with intact skin. White Bayblend® M301 FR blend resin, found in the housing of the Vios Medical wearable monitoring device, creates an aesthetically pleasing device thanks to its excellent impact resistance and surface appearance. An added benefit, Bayblend® resin also meets UL requirements. The hinge, feet, button and seal of the device all benefit from the water-tight seal and flexible properties offered by Texin® RxT70A TPU.
