Expertise meets fresh perspectives
In what was truly a collaborative effort, Covestro worked closely with talented students from the Umeå Institute of Design (UID) in Sweden and the Northern Works design agency in Finland to develop the visionary car concept. With technical support from Covestro experts, the students cultivated completely new ideas for design and functionality that bridge the gap between design and materials. Their contributions focused on using Makrolon® polycarbonate in exterior lighting applications, creative surfaces and integrated solutions that played a key role in the design of the electric concept vehicle.

New designs for vehicle lighting
Covestro often works closely with customers to develop new concepts that push the boundaries in regard to styling, functional integration, safety, profitability and sustainability. For the concept car, Covestro worked with automotive supplier HELLA to develop several innovative lighting solutions for the front and rear of the vehicle, incorporating LED technology. One groundbreaking application was based on holographic films that allow various light functions to be integrated into body parts. The solution requires very little space and opens up entirely new possibilities for using light as a design element.
