Makrolon® Rx3440 polycarbonate from Covestro features superior durability and oncology drug resistance for reliable IV connections.
To help prevent cracking so that healthcare professionals can safely deliver oncology drugs to patients, Covestro developed Makrolon® Rx3440 polycarbonate – a new medical grade polycarbonate that features superior durability and chemical resistance. Comprehensive lab testing shows that this material provides best-in-class chemical and oncology drug resistance when compared to other transparent resins used for IV access components. It also demonstrates good stress retention, providing more reliable IV connections.
Other advantages of Makrolon® Rx3440 polycarbonate include:
- Biocompatible according to ISO 10993-1 and USP Class IV standards
- Greater structural integrity to assure tight-fitting luer connections
- Toughness to resist mishandling
- Dimensional stability in shipping and storage
When developing Makrolon® Rx3440 polycarbonate, Covestro designed a novel apparatus to test the chemical resistance of customers’ luer connectors. This testing apparatus provides immersion under real-life loading and adjustable force, allowing for accelerated testing.
