Baydur® Pultrusion is a composite material made of polyurethane resin and reinforced glass fiber, produced by a patented pultrusion process. Desmocomp® is a new aliphatic polyurethane resin matrix system for fiber-reinforced plastics with extreme UV-, weathering-, and flame resistance. It is designed for exterior applications that can protect composites from environmental influences, such as sunlight or salty climates. They can be processed in a simple and cost-efficient way using pultrusion technology, and show excellent mechanical as well as good fire resistance properties. UV stabilizers and protective coatings are no longer required. Desmocomp® widens the scope of polyurethane-based resins and opens up the way to new applications for fiber-reinforced plastics.

By using weight-saving composite materials, the automotive industry meets challenges such as rising CO2 emissions, the increasing desire for mobility and scarcity of resources. In automotive lightweight construction, three-layer sandwich structures are used, with the upper and lower cover layer consisting of a fiber composite material. The 2K polyurethane system Baypreg® serves as a matrix material and encloses the fibers. Baypreg® also ensures the cohension of the bond between core and cover layer and serves as an effective protection against external influences. For its fast chemical reaction and the resulting short cycle time, it has become an established matrix material. Baypreg® is used for loading floors in trunks, hatracks, headliners and wheel covers.
